Hole 11 - 211 yards

The 11th hole at Turnberry is patterned after one of the world’s most famous par-3 concepts – the Redan. Borrowed from a military term that means “guarding parapet,” the world’s most famous Redan can be found at North Berwick’s West Links. On Berwick’s 15th hole, golfers face an exceptionally difficult blind tee shot over a knoll and bunker to a green that plays away from the direction of the tee shot and down towards the left. Golfers are expected to feed the shot from the right, allowing the ball to release down towards the hole. Versions of the Redan can be found at numerous courses in North America, including Toronto Golf Club (the club’s fourth hole) and National Golf Links (its 4th hole).

Turnberry’s Redan requires a long iron or hybrid tee shot that must carry a bunker short of the green that appears closer to the putting surface than it actually is. “There is space between the bunker and green,” Tyers adds, noting the green runs down to a large hollow. “Recovering from missing the green isn’t going to be easy,” Tyers explains.

From there shots hit to the right of the green will pitch onto the putting surface and drift to the back right.
