Hole 2 - 160 yards

A short par-3, the second at Turnberry is notable for its unusual green, which connects with the putting surface of the eighth hole. The green is long and has a raised bowl – making it unique and unusual, which is not surprising considering it was based on the eccentric “Short” hole at National Golf Links.

“This hole gave us the opportunity to do two things,” says Cam Tyers. “We had to find a way to create a runoff for existing storm water, so we created a burn that runs from the front to the left of the green. Secondly, we created a double green with the eighth hole.”

The premise of the hole is “Short,” the sixth at National Golf Links in Long Island, N.Y, which former Masters champ Ben Crenshaw regarded as one of his favourite one-shot holes in the world. The green on the original hole is quite unusual, with a large rise in the middle making it feel like three smaller putting surfaces. The result is that if a player is in the wrong location on the green, three putts will be common.
